All are invited to celebrate the USS Cod Submarine's unique WWII rescue of a Dutch submarine crew on Saturday, July 13 at 2 pm aboard Cod.
The public will be admitted for free beginning at 1:00 pm to witness the Cod's annual reenactment of the only international sub-to-sub rescue in history. The event (rain or shine) includes a reenactment of the transfer of the Dutch flag aboard Cod as well as a deck gun salute, with refreshments following.
A contingent of modern Dutch submariners will participate as guests of honor. The wartime rescue followed the grounding of the Dutch sub O-19 on Ladd Reef, deep in enemy waters. The two crews spent the next three days aboard Cod, a total of 152 men on the 312-foot Cod.
