NASA Logo's 65th Birthday Celebration

  • Great Lakes Science Center 601 Erieside Avenue Cleveland, OH, 44114 United States (map)

Did you know NASA’s iconic “meatball” logo was created in Cleveland at NASA Glenn Research Center by Graphic Artist James Modarelli? To celebrate the logo’s 65th birthday, we’re joining with NASA Glenn to celebrate the intersections of art and science.

Join us from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, July 15 for a Free Day, including presentations from NASA’s award-winning photographers, videographers and designers. We’ll also hear about the history of and symbolism behind the NASA logo during the event.

A special NASA Logo birthday cake cutting ceremony is scheduled for 10:30 am, with free cake for attendees (while supplies last).

Throughout the day we’ll have visits from Eva the Astronaut Mascot, a coloring contest, and photo opportunities with the cosmos. We’ll also have unique immersive opportunities at our latest exhibit “Tapescape: International Tape Station” showcasing real-life Cleveland driven innovations aboard the International Space Station, to include: Virtual Reality Demos featuring the International Space Station, hands-on demonstrations related to NASA Glenn’s research, and subject matter experts to talk about the performance and durability of materials in space environments.
